Enforce Learning and Compliance Requirements

Control when learners can access content, how they progress, how long they must engage, and what must happen before a course or activity can be completed. These controls help providers meet rules that generic LMS platforms often leave to manual administration.

Sequential progression

Require learners to complete activities in curriculum order with Linear Progression.

Seat-time enforcement

Require a minimum amount of time in each activity before it can be marked complete. The time-progress indicator can be shown or hidden.

Activity delays

Delay access based on time since the learner started the course or time since the previous activity was completed. Configure custom pending language so the learner understands when access will open.

Completion approval

Require an administrator to review and approve an activity before it counts as complete. Review uploads, essays, quizzes, exams, and other submissions from a centralized queue.

Identity and session controls

Use periodic secret-question authentication, configurable inactivity timeouts, and exam lockout controls to support identity verification and controlled assessment sessions.

Content protection

Set maximum exam time, continuous mode, attempt limits, reset schedules, passing scores, and retake rules.

Scoring and review controls

Use automatic scoring for supported question types and manual review for essays or uploads. Lock scores until review, and control when students may see correct answers or review prior responses.

Exam-specific learner tools

Provide an on-screen calculator, answer-choice strikethrough, customized pass and fail messages, and final-exam designation for certifiable courses.

Simulation and performance questions

Use simulation questions when learners must complete multiple tasks within a single assessment item rather than simply recall a fact.

Open/closed book exams

Timed exams do not lock the learner's browser, allowing a separate reference window or printed material during open-book practice. You can also prevent open book within the settings to prevent the user from browsing other parts of the site during the exam.

Proctored tests

Acknowledgement forms for live proctors can be submitted within the platform. Third-party ProctorFree integration is available when external proctoring is required.

Convert prospects with demo access

Let prospective learners experience a course before purchasing without creating a separate demo version. A demo credit grants access to a configurable subset of course materials. When users reach the end of the demo, Acadio prompts them to purchase through an external redirect to any endpoint or an in-platform upsell powered by Stripe.

Authentication and provisioning

Use Google OAuth 2.0 or signed JWT authentication. JWT payloads can create or authenticate users and synchronize supported user details, groups, metadata, and credits.

Workflow automation and webhooks

Send real-time events to external systems when users, credits, assessments, activities, course completions, or surveys change. Webhooks support wildcard subscriptions, HMAC SHA-256 signing, and automatic retries on unsuccessful delivery.
